Introducing “Exploring the Everyday”
If you’ve been following NextView for a while, then you’ve heard us talk a lot about the “everyday economy” which is our core investment theme at the fund. Our belief is that technology is causing a wholesale redesign of all the major areas of everyday life, including categories such as housing, food, children, transportation, apparel, health and others. You can read a more in-depth description of the everyday economy, and why we choose this thematic approach to our investments here.
We strongly believe in this idea in investing in goods and services that impact the day to day lives of the everyday person. We are lucky enough to spend our days working with founders who are genuinely interested in making the lives of people more fruitful. But in doing this, we encounter many incredible stories of people who are doing remarkable things in the Everyday Economy but aren’t necessarily building companies that engage directly with our world as VC investors. This is why we decided to create a new series called, “Exploring the Everyday”.
Exploring the Everyday will be a bi-monthly featured interview aimed at creating awareness around an individual or company who is doing something really impactful or unusual in the Everyday Economy. This interview series is an opportunity for us to have in depth conversations about topics we may not talk about every day, and yet, may one day impact all of our lives one way or another.
Whether it’s collecting donated poop to help someone get their life back on track, changing the world one run at a time, running for President in 2020, or attempting to change the way Americans consume meat, these individuals believe that there are better ways to live our lives. They are trying to design a future that they would want to live in, even if it seems wildly ambitious, and a little strange.
We look forward to sharing these incredible stories with you and hope that you learn something along the way. If you have any companies or individuals you think would be a good fit for this series, please drop us a note here or on twitter!
First up next week, we chat with 2020 Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang about his Universal Basic Income platform!
